men and women have particular body shapes. there is a science behind body shapes and dressing to them.
body shapes for women:
rectangle -straight body
pear
apple
hourglass
body shapes for men:
triangle
inverted triangle
oval
rectangle
trapezium
how do you know which body shape is most fitting to you?
have someone else take your measurements. -they will not be accurate if you take them yourself.
from there, determine which description fits your measurements best.
women:
rectangle: this body type does not have a well defined waistline. you have the about the same measurements for all sections of your body
pear: the measurements of your bust are fairly smaller than the measurements of your hips, giving you a defined waist. someone with a pear shape tends to have slim arms and shoulders.
apple: the measurements of your upper body are proportionally larger than those of your lower body. someone with an apple shape usually has broad shoulders and a full bust. you also have slim hips and a relatively flat bum.
hourglass: the measurements of your bust and bum are well balanced giving you a defined waistline.
men:
triangle: the measurements of your chest are fairly smaller than those of your hips because you tend to be a bit fuller in the lower half of your body. you also have a sloping shoulder line.
inverted triangle: the measurements of your upper body are larger than the measurements of your lower body, giving you a narrow waist as well.
oval: this body type tends to have bulky arms with larger measurements around the back and the waistline. your legs and bum are more slender. your shoulders have a down set and you have lower set hip bones.
rectangle: your measurements from your chest to your waist are almost the same. your torso is more straight than curved.
trapezium: this body type has broad shoulders and a broad chest. the measurements of the upper torso are larger than the lower torso. your waist and hips are slightly narrow.
feeling most confident in your appearance in clothing comes from knowing your measurements and knowing your body shape. by dressing to your measurements rather than the size label, you are dressing for fit which is more important than what the label says. dressing to your correct body shape will teach you how to balance the proportions of your body with clothing. what works for one body shape might not work for another. that doesn’t mean that one body is greater than or lesser than another but people still tend to feel that way because they aren’t informed about the difference in body shapes and sizes and what works for each.
balance is key.
